More detail: mechanical refit to LEED Gold standard.
Client: City of Ottawa
Engineer: Zenix Engineering
General Contractor: Nicolini Construction Ltd.
Energy Retrofit: reduced annual energy costs from $1,500,000 to $900,000.
Work involved changes to the mechanical systems, lighting and architectural trades work. X-L-Air acted as the General Contractor and was responsible for all mechanical, electrical, architectural, structural and DDC controls work. This project was completed while the National Gallery remained open. Care was taken to maintain environmental conditions i.e. air temperature, humidity, cleanliness so as to avoid damage to the art exhibits.
X-L-Air also installed a saw dust extraction system for the large woodwork shop on a turn-key basis (i.e. design-build).

Engineer: Enerpro (Montreal)
Client: Federal Government of Canada
X-L-Air was the prime mechanical contractor responsible for HVAC, Plumbing, laboratory services, greenhouse mechanical systems, building and laboratory automation controls and sprinklers.
This was a complex laboratory-type building and included various lab systems such as variable air volume fume hoods and a large greenhouse with special mechanical equipment and controls.
This building consumes 73 percent less energy than a conventional building. The university is saving $270,000 a year, over a conventional mechanical system for this type of building. Read the PDF for more information.
General Contractor: Westeinde Construction Ltd.
Engineer: R.J. McKee Engineering Ltd.
